Celina Su (Graduate Center of the City University of New York)
| Wed Mar 4, 17:00-18:00 (4 weeks from now) | |
Abstract: At this Metagov seminar, Dr. Celina Su will be joining us to discuss her new book, Budget Justice: On Building Grassroots Politics and Solidarities, which examines about 10 years of grassroots democratic governance work in NYC, including participatory budgeting experiments and her involvement with The People’s Plan. Dr. Su is the Marilyn J. Gittell Chair in Urban Studies and a Professor of Political Science, Environmental Psychology, and Urban Education at The CUNY Graduate Center City, New York.
This talk will be hosted by Metagov community member Ian Williams who attended Dr. Su's book launch event and was inspired to invite her to present to Metagov as it offers empirical examinations of on the ground community activism and democratic governance, links it to community organizations and campaigns in NYC, and offers a space to discuss how some of the work that Metagov is engaged with might be useful for existing campaigns and organizations. This talks is for anyone interested in democratic governance, community organizing, participatory budgeting, civic tech, urban politics, and social movements.
